Touch Up Tuesday

Tuesday, December 28, 2010

okay I'm on a roll this week! 1 link up per day so far since Christmas! This must be a record. This is my first time doing Touch Up Tuesday! I've become a big fan of Paper Heart Camera and all the ladies involved each week. I am inspired..which I think is what they are going for!

So here's my SOOC shot
I was inside in VERY Tungsten light taking photos of the holiday table and family at my in laws on Christmas night and apparently their back yard is red bird heaven! So, I kept trying to capture them right at the right time out of the window. Well, obviously it wasn't very tungsten out on Christmas Day! It was actually quite the opposite and I got this VERY BLUE photo!
After a little touching up:

While this photo was still taken through the glass of their kitchen window, I like the final results!

Touch Up Process:
in Lightroom 3
1. I warmed it up using the temperature control
2. I decreased the noise
3. Amped up the blacks just a little and added some contrast

in CS5
1. Ran Burn My Edges! action 2x at 100% then decreased to 50%
2. Ran Pioneer Woman's Define and Sharpen action
3. Cropped to my liking

It's still not very clear...but the "daddy" Redbird just POPPED amounst all the snowy clouds and evening gray!

BTW: Click on the photo to see it larger. I am unable to post XL photos without that overlaping thing happening. If you follow me by email or in a reader - consider yourself spared! I hate that my template is messed up! I'm trying to fix it..but don't be turned off because my blog is not as beautiful as it used to be! =)

  3. Awesome shot and edit! The cardinal really pops out at me now. I've yet to get a good shot of one; they fly away too fast for me! :)

  5. Hi, I'm new here and a fellow photographer. I found you on Blog Frog from MckMama's community.

Beautiful photo by the way, wish we had cardinals here in Colorado. I'm curious if you know why your edited photo is less clear in the details that the original. I have a similar problem when doing my editing and I can't seem to figure out why

  7. Hey, I am checking this blog using the phone and this appears to be kind of odd. Thought you'd wish to know. This is a great write-up nevertheless, did not mess that up.
