DIY PRINTABLE TAGS

Wednesday, August 28, 2013

When we decided to go out a limb and participate in a local street festival as a vendor, we must have been out of our minds, but fortunately it actually went really well (except we are still trying to sell all the leftovers- you can buy our stuff here). You can see photos from the evening here.

One thing I knew I wanted was to not LOOK like amateurs, even though we totally are! Not in the sewing department, we were pretty much bred with those genes, but as a business/pop up shop/vendor. So, we worked really hard to make everything look handmade but professional and one of the things I'm most proud of are our hang tags! We pinned these to every article of clothing.

While you may not be mass producing these guys, they are really useful and super personal, not to mention cute, for gifts.

Here's how I made these:

  • I used this template, but you could make your own or check out pinterest for a shape you like. I already have a few pre-made freebies pinned for the holidays!
  • Download the template and open in Photoshop (you could also do this in picmonkey if you don't have PS). It's already sized to 8.5x11 for printing so no worries on resolution.
  • Personalization: I added our shop name and a feather for our handmade items, Upcycled for our recycled items, and Vintage (3 different templates). Once I had everything like I wanted it on the first tag I merged my layers and copied it to the next tag and so on. If you are doing gift tags, you could add the occasion or "Love, The Clark Family", etc.
  • Printing: This is what can really make your or break your look and it's SO simple. I used cardstock in Brown Bag/Kraft  (I found ours at Michael's) for a simple handmade/vintage look but I'd love to try Metallics or another fun color!
  • Using scissors or a paper cutter, cut each tag out then use a hole punch for the top.
  • I used a light blue twine to attach!

And done! I loved how they were easy to see and popped against the clothes! I will definitely be using this technique for Christmases and birthdays to come! Design Editor had SO many cute ideas with this template that don't require Photoshop! You can even let your kids decorate and not have to worry about them wasting store bought tags (you know in case they don't turn out)!
