Confession: I really love to eat. I love all kinds of food. I love to try new foods and have been known to indulge a little at times. Food is comfort, conversation, family time, and can be a lot of fun.
So, throughout my first pregnancy and now this one, I have to admit that food turned into my enemy. I remember saying when I was pregnant with Jonah that I wish there was some magic pregnancy drink that could fill you up and be fully nutritional for the baby without ME having to make the choices. I learned a lot during that pregnancy, but unfortunately went back to my pre-pregnancy way of eating and hoped the next pregnancy would be different. I don't eat badly, but I don't always make the best choices to give my body the energy it needs.
So, here we are again and with re-flux problems like whoa and gestational diabetes, I have pretty much stuck to the most boring diet ever. I am constantly looking for ways to incorporate nutritional and natural snacks into my every day. Since I snack pretty much on the hour these days, it's hard to come up with things to carry to work or have readily available that I don't have to prepare or worry about spoiling. So, prepackaged and healthy (with a low glycemic index) would be perfect. Currently, I eat a lot of protein bars, whole grain bread with peanut butter, some cheese (which I went about two months without due to the worst morning sickness) and yogurt with fruit. I have been able to add back some real meals as long as they are kind of balanced, but those only last an hour or two before baby says "let's eat" again.
So, as part of Pop Sugar Select Moms I was so happy to get the opportunity to try out Nature Box. Truthfully, I have been eyeing Nature Box for a really long time and this may have just pushed me over the edge to go ahead and make it a regular habit. I just wasn't sure it would be worth the price and have enough of what I liked. I hate buying food and then no one eats it.

Specifically, I am skeptical when buying mixes, because while I like nuts, I don't like things to be overly nutty tasting. I want a more crispy texture than crunchy if that makes sense to anyone. So, I love what Pop Sugar's Editor chose for the Must Have Mix (pictured above), because it has corn, cranberries and soybeans along with almonds. It's sounds kind of like a strange mix, but it's actually really good.

These have made great snacks over the past week. The Blueberry Almond Bites has already been demolished and the Peaches are going fast. I'd love to have kept these all for myself ( I should have taken them to work and left them in my desk drawer) but of course whatever mommy is eating, so is the boy. He LOVED the Blueberry Almond Bites... which is why it was the first to go. He liked the Peaches at first, but I think they are a little tough for him to chew. Great news - more for me!

I think I'll be adding these mixes to my snacks repertoire. They are easy (we all know I love something that just kind of shows up at your door) and nothing has been too much to spike my blood sugar so far. Even if you aren't worried about sugar and carbs and all that stuff that's soo not fun, they are are super easy just to stick in your bag and take them on the go. I still haven't opened the lemon pucker pistachios - kind of nervous about those! Anyone ever tried them?
What's your favorite go-to, stick in your purse or desk drawer healthy snack? I could really use some more ideas!
