I mentioned in my first 4 Gifts post that we were participating in Operation Christmas Child this year and packing a shoe box for a child who will get a surprise for Christmas and the gift of great Joy.
Operation Christmas Child is MORE than a Gift BOX!
It is a box that opens the door for missionaries to preach the gospel. Inside each box are materials in the the native language telling the person receiving the box about JESUS! They also get the chance through the box to participate in a 12 week program called the Greatest Journey. This program is like Sunday School and at the end they graduate with caps, gowns, and everything. For each box received an average of 4 people receive the eternal gift of salvation. This is not a Christmas gift this is a door to the true gift of salvation. (take from our Church's website)
Jonah chose nearly everything in the box and did at one point have a little trouble not buying for himself. We did wind up getting him some socks and one 94 cent car. He was so helpful at the store and was a pleasure to shop with. I was pretty proud of him!
He helped me make sure everything we picked out would fit into the box. Otherwise, I would have gotten home with way too much stuff and I am awful about returning things to the store. I literally NEVER do it.
So we grabbed the things for the box, green bean casserole ingredients for the Christmas Basket donation at work and a few other things and headed home to pack our box! Here's what we included.
There's still time! The pick up date from the drop off locations is Monday, November 23rd! So go grab a shoe box, it doesn't have to be this logo one, and pack it, then find a drop off location near you!
