Is it just me or does everyone feel like they are constantly feeding their kids? Mealtime? No thanks. Five minutes later, they are asking for a snack. So, "snacks" are what my kids seem to live on and I know with the summer heat and activities their bodies are craving extra, so I'm happy to give them more... usually. Lately though, I feel like I'm running out of options for snacks. I also still have trouble making sure Ezra gets enough protein, because he really doesn't eat a lot of protein rich foods when I cook or even in a snack. He's basically a carb-a-holic (like his mama) and I try to combat that but it's pretty difficult when you are dealing with a fussy toddler.
Don't get me wrong, the boy loves food and good foods too. He eats tons of fruit and he'll eat anything if you cover it in marinara, but fruit isn't very filling and red sauces are kind of a - you must have a bath after things, so it's limiting. To work on him getting some good protein in his system, I started scouring the Kroger aisles for protein rich snacks that I can give him between meals. Several months back we started balancing when we would give him "squeeze packs" that had 2 or more grams of protein (most of them have one gram or less) and I found that he likes greek yogurt! Then recently we were introduced to this new snack from Gerber.
These boys could not wait to try Gerber® Lil’ Beanies(TM). So, hopefully having another option with a little protein will change up our snacking routine for the better!

You know big brother had to get in on that action too! Fine with me. The equivalent "big kid" snack doesn't seem like it would be as healthy. We don't have to tell him we picked them up on Kroger's "baby aisle"(click to locate where Lil' Beanies are available). These treats are the first bean-based snack on the baby aisle. Lil’ Beanies(TM) are made from navy beans to give you 2 grams of protein (9% Daily Value), and 1 gram of fiber and 10% Daily Value of Vitamin E per serving (there are about 3 servings in the can). Gerber® Lil’ Beanies(TM) are also a baked snack and are flavored with natural flavors.
Have you tried them yet? We took ours along today to share... I'm not sure how that went. haha
It was a good day, with or without sharing.
Send the kids outside and then fill them up with nutritious snacks all summer long!
