Thank You For Helping Me Grow: Gift Idea + Free Printable Tags

I have the hardest time figuring out what to give teachers at the end of the year. At Christmas, I like to give them a real gift, something for themselves that I would give someone at Christmas anyway. At the end of the year though, I want it to be something from the kids as they move on and something the kids can help with a little too. I didn't have a lot to spend this year, so I decided to do something I would love getting and something that Jonah could help me put together for his teachers. So, we created a mason jar flower pot with Begonias, one of my favorite flowers and we chose them in red, because that's Jonah's favorite color.

Supply List:

  • Wide Mouth Mason Jars
  • 4-5 Medium sized rocks for each jar
  • Moss
  • Potting Soil
  • Burlap Ribbon
  • 1-2 flowering plants for each jar
You will also need scissors, hot glue gun (or preferred craft glue) and a small shovel or spoon for the dirt.

Step 1. Glue Burlap Ribbon around the jar and let cool. Be VERY careful not to touch the burlap as the glue is cooling. I suggest using a popsicle stick to press the burlap to the jar.

Step 2. Stuff a round piece of moss into the bottom of the jar. This is artificial moss cut from a roll of "moss ribbon."
Step 3. Add rocks to the bottom of your jar for draining when watering your flowers.

Step 4. Add potting soil to your jar leaving enough room a the top to add your flowers.

Step 5. Add two flowering plants into the dirt and fill in to hold plants firmly.
Step 6. Add bits of moss around the top.

Viola! You are done! Unless, you want to add these cute little signs I made for you.

For this you'll need a small skewer, we always have these left from projects or baking activities, a printer, scissors and cardstock. You can download these tags here and use your hot glue gun or craft glue to glue them to the skewer. Then just add them to the dirt!

I really love how these turned out! I think next time I might do painted mason jars for different look. To be completely honest, these are not what I set out to make at first, so I'm going to show you in another post the plants we put together for Ezra's teachers. They also have a free printable sign!

If you are like us, you've already given your teacher gift for the year, but these are great for anybody... babysitters, grandparents, tutors, activities teachers and the list goes on. I made the image above easy to pin for next year!
