Recreating the Feeling

I've been thinking for several weeks now of this place on my way to and from work that I would love to capture in the perfect light. Its about 10 – 15 miles from the town I work in (an hour from home) so I’m limited to what time of day I can be there. Morning and evening commutes and well morning just ain’t happening. Finally, the other day on the way home I decided to try it even though the shadows were already pretty dark. I WILL go back when someone is with me because this shot was semi dangerous -considering it's in the middle of a bridge and there’s really no other way to get to it but stop your car in the middle. So CAREFULLY that is what I did.

 I'm not really happy with the railing in the foreground or the limited ability to see all the tree trunks and roots along the bank as you can in the morning light. But something that I have realized about photography is it can become sort of like a drug. You are always chasing something better, the perfect shot, the feeling from the resulting photograph to be exactly how you felt while you were standing there. I also realized this "high" (if you will) is unreachable because nature is made by God and that expensive camera, this computer screen, and the resulting photo were all made by people, imperfect people,  and we can never compare.

 At the same, time we take photographs for memories right? So, even though I will still strive to get a better photo of this awe inspiring creation of God, I will remember that feeling I get when I make a point each morning and evening to look to the left or the right at this specific moment. I will be able to remember the feeling because I have the photo to remind me of THAT feeling.
