Because I am one of the hosts of the Edit Me Challenge, my photo cannot be considered for judging. I am sliding it in right at the last minute to add to the link up, so I don't know how many of you edit me (ers) will actually see it, but I couldn't resist editing this photo! I love it! Thanks Jaymi for such a great photo!
{updated} I originally planned to show all the details of how I edited this photo this week, but wasn't able to fit it in before the linky ended over on Edit Me, but I intended to at least do it after I linked up. So, are some of the details!
Saturday night, I was a part of a small group that took Mom Tried It's second Photoshop/PSE class. If you have Photoshop or Elements and no idea how to really use it, I would highly recommend taking this course. Other than some technical difficulties with the meeting host's site, the class was great! I have experience with Photoshop and know most of the basics, but I still learned some great stuff from Kim! So, the class is great for beginners but it's great for people with experience too! As soon as the class was winding down I grabbed this photo and started practicing some of the new things I learned!
I do not have all the steps, but here are some of the resources and tricks!
- I used a couple of Paint the Moon's Actions from the Blessing Set - Heist is my fav!
- I used the Freebie Texture from PTM. (see link above)
- I used a trick from Kim - shhh - Blurring the texture layer just around the subject keeps the color but takes the texture off of the skin! My favorite trick of the night! =)
- I blended the texture on Soft Light - almost always do when using texture on a portrait.
- I used a High Pass filter after adding the texture, blended on soft light, and decreased the opacity some.
- I then sharpened her features using the sharpening tool!
This entire edit was completed in Photoshop CS5 which I hardly EVER do. I usually start in Lightroom, but I feel a little more confident now with my capabilities in PS. Thank Kim! =)
Here's the before and after shot! I love the difference the editing made in the already great shot!
XOXO
ooh I love your edit Stephanie! The texture is great on it, adds a lot to the photo without being overwhelming! Love the final tones too, great job! And thanks again for having me as a guest host!
ReplyDeleteVery nice and subtle, I agree with Jaymi re the texture: it does work beautifully without being too overwhelming indeed. Would have been nice to tell us more about the process though :) Still, the end result is very pretty. Stephanie, thanks for hosting such a great challenge by the way, I only discovered it yesterday and had lots of fun taking part: I will try to do it again soon!
ReplyDeleteYes, it was a great picture this week! I love your edit! The texture you used looks great on this!
ReplyDeleteGreat edit.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful edit!
ReplyDeleteThis is a gorgeous edit, Stephanie!!
ReplyDeleteLove the tones and the texture! And I've never heard of paint the moon, so thanks for sharing that resource.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you enjoyed the class and you learned something new. I will be doing the next class with a different host site. That was unbelievable.
