It's funny
now to think back to when I was pregnant with Jonah to all the daydreams that
rolled through my head all day long. I thought of all the wonderful things I
hoped he'd inherit from Wesley or me: my blue eyes, his long dark eye lashes, a
head full of dark brown hair or red like mine. Then, I'd think about all the
things that he'd inherit from us that weren't so wonderful. He will inevitably
have our seasonal allergies, most likely an affinity for sweets, and at some
point he'll probably have to adorn a perfectly geeky pair of glasses.
I’d honestly
see little boys wearing frames and picture Jonah that way. Now a year later, I
can’t really picture it, but I guess we could always look at Wesley’s childhood
photos and get an idea. (I really wish I had one to post! ha)

Connor and Jonah :This is one of my favorite photos from the photo booth from Jonah's Birthday Party. I'll be posting the rest in a few days! |
In my family
(and my husbands), pretty much everyone wears glasses, there was the exception
of my dad but then he turned 50 and never goes without reading glasses (sorry
daddy). I thought for a while as a child that I’d take after my namesake and
maintain my 20/20 vision.
When my sister, Andrea got her pink Mickey Mouse
glasses in Kindergarten the eye doc said I’d never have to wear them, but by 5th
grade I was squinting to see the chalkboard and sure enough it got
progressively worse from there. I’d keep my glasses in my backpack and slip
them on to see the board and then quickly take them off. I started wearing contacts
in 7th grade (which is also when I got my braces so there was NO WAY
I’d have both! I have a certain reputation to maintain) and have been rocking those
ever since.
Now,
thinking back on how much I have spent personally on eye care and wear, I feel
a little sorry my for parents. Three children (girls at that) having to have
glasses, contacts, braces, clothes, shoes, and the list goes on and on. Thanks
to my husband, we try to be extra covered for these things and working in
healthcare, I know how important insurance can be. The thing is eye wear is necessary
and the options are endless. Vision insurance isn’t offered by every workplace
and isn’t always offered for the whole family. For our family, it’s something I
think we’ll always have and hopefully we can put off needing to use it for Jonah
for quite a few more years…maybe he’ll take after his granddaddy on this one.
