We had a weekend without kids, so we planned to do a lot at the house because honestly, there has been so much to do since we moved into our new home in April and we haven't done all that much. We moved into such a blank slate it feels like there is so much to do. The house is beautiful as is, but the personal touches just make it "us". So, adding a little color to the generically landscaped flower beds our front was high on my list!
This weekend I dragged my mom to Lowe's with me to pick out some Monrovia Summer Blooms. I finally got them in the ground last night and haven't had time to upload the photos of these gorgeous flowers just yet so I just snapped this picture this morning with my phone on the way to work - It doesn't look like much now but it will and I'm happy with the choices I made in getting the
Here are 5 Simple How-To Tips from Monrovia and me for even the most novice gardener:
- Select the right plants for your climate and sun needs. Do you know your Zone? Find out here.
- Plant in rich soil, give them the water and nutrients they need. Your plants will come with a plant tag stuck down in the soil. Be sure this is in your pot when you check out at your Garden center. It will tell you how often to water, feed, and how much light this plant will need. If you don't have it be sure to go to Monrovia's website and you can find the same information there.
- Keep an eye out for pests and disease. Ask your local garden center how to fight these!
- Don’t be afraid of a little pruning to encourage flowering and lush foliage.
- If you live in a fairly mild climate, you may find that your annuals (which means they only have one life cycle) may come back the next year! This happened with some of our flowers I even transplanted from our old house.
