Deadly Delay: Children at Risk - #WindowSafety

Friday, November 6, 2015

Working with Smith & Noble on the #SafeandStylish campaign has made me acutely aware of the real dangers of blind cords. So much so I felt the need to write an additional post above what is required of me for this partnership. Last night, as I sat on the couch to watch Grey's Anatomy, I saw a teaser for Good Morning America and this story

Near-Death Video: Young Victim Urges Every Parent To Watch

Please do not read on without watching it. My heart is in my gut right now. That boy was not a baby reaching for the cord. He's at least 3 and may have even been allowed to open the blinds own his own as I would allow probably allow Jonah and I KNOW the dangers of cords. His mother was right there. Thank God!

We currently don't have any blinds or corded curtains in our home, but we did in our Belhaven home just beside our bed within reach of our toddler. We kept the tied up but when the blinds were pulled open they may have dangled.  How easily that could happen to any of us. I am a firm believer in knowledge is power, so please think about changing out the blinds in your homes. At the very least install cord cleats like the ones offered with some of the S&N products.

Please take a moment to download the Window Safety Guide found here and make sure you are up-to-date on current measures to protect our children.
