Room Tour | Boys Shared Room + Keeping it #bissellclean GIVEAWAY!

Tuesday, November 17, 2015

I have the most trouble with "home tour" type posts. I always want to do them because I really do love to decorate and personalize our spaces and I love our new house, but like I said in the last living room post, I never feel like it's done. I want to add this here, that there, this isn't clean enough, that isn't picked up and on and on. Buuutt, since BISSELL sent me this wondrous piece of equipment that will probably live in the boy's room, I decided to go ahead and show my hard work with you guys as it is. By the time it's actually finished, it'll be time to change it again!

I made up my mind even before Ezra was born, that our boys would share a room. When we were planning a nursery for Ezra, we decided to let him room-in with us. you can see that in our shared master in our old house. When we moved, we thought it would be a good time to transition him to share a room with Jonah, plus, we have a split plan now and the bedrooms are on the opposite side of the house. So, we thought they'd keep each other company at night if they were both on that side of the house. Now, we try to make that happen... the two of them sleeping in the same room all night, but we rarely wake up in the morning without one or both of them in our bed. Really that's fine as long as we are actually sleeping. At this age though, that's hit or miss (a big miss this week). At any rate, I hope this is establishing their relationship to share for years to come. We use our guest room as their play room and it is still lacking in organization.. let me tell you.. we won't be seeing that room anytime soon!

Jonah is still using his toddler bed Wesley built him, but has been asking for a bigger bed, so we will probably have to reconfigure a bit in the near future. My vision is for side by side twin beds with a short dresser in the middle, coordinating quilts and monogrammed pillow cases. Oh the dreams I dream.

I recently added the decals that my sister and I made using her sillouette and of course the ikea spice rack book shelves. He actually really loves it and uses his book shelves daily. At the end of his bed you'll see his baby quilt that I'm not quite ready to put away yet. He's not either, so we are keeping that baby around for as long as we can!

Ezra's crib is located just as you enter the room and you don't really see his "feature wall" unless you are inside the room, but it might be my favorite thing EVER! I worked so hard on make each of their spaces their own, but still coordinating just enough. Ezra's entire space was inspired by that custom Baby Jives Mobile (the white one) you see hanging there. I may have even chose the fabrics for his quilt based on that "neutral nautical" look. I am so proud of his quilt. I feel like I should dedicate a post just to it! I still love it that much even a year later.

The glider sits kind of between their beds, closer to Ezra's and is probably the most used chair in the house. I am so thankful for that chair! On the same wall as the door, across from the glider is the dress/changing table. To the left of it, on the same wall as Jonah's shelves is the closet (not pictured). It big enough for both boy's clothes and then some, but not big enough for toys, which is why I'm glad we have our third bedroom!

There are several things I still want to improve upon and that will be ever-changing. I am looking for new/more art for the wall above the dresser and I am hoping to finally order some photos of them or art for over their beds/above Jonah's book shelves.

The one thing I REALLY didn't like about their room (and ours for that matter) in our new house was the carpet. The rest of the house has wood flooring, with the baths and laundry having tile. Our old house, everything was wood, except the kitchen. I resigned myself to deciding to embrace the carpet because the boys really LOVED it because it's so soft... and they are so rough.

However, as you can see in exhibit A up there... it doesn't stay clean. That is the real reason I hated the carpet. I have two boys and a big white dog. Unfortunately, carpet can't be just lifted and swept under. We were still in potty training stage with Jonah and will go through it again with Ezra. I hate to say it but my dog is more responsible with his bathroom habits than my four year old. So, for months now, Wesley and I have been going back and forth about paying someone to come shampoo the three rooms or purchasing a steam cleaner for ourselves to have on hand. With the holidays coming up and people over all the time, it was a must to make something happen!

I personally thought having to do it ourselves would be too much of a hassle. Just let someone come in and do it, I said. they'll do a better job anyway, I said. Then I met my new best friend...

and everything changed.

Ezra is amazed as you can see.. that boy loves some house hold machinery!

Do you see what I mean about the carpet? Disgusting! That's after I vacuumed too. Mama's of boys (and probably girls too for different reasons) you NEED this machine. It maneuvers just as well, if not better than my regular vacuum and cleans deep below the surface.

We had some people over to our house this weekend right after I used my new friend and I didn't even worry about there being a smell in the boys room when I sent them in there! I am so loving BISSELL right now!

For every purchase of the BISSELL ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet, BISSELL will donate $10 to the BISSELL Pet Foundation to help America’s homeless pets.

  2. My favorite cleaning tip is to carry a basket with you from room to room to put the things that do not belong in that room in the basket so you can drop it in that room when you get to rather than running back and forth! my4boysand1 at gmail dot com

  3. My favorite cleaning tip is to use a slightly damp cloth to dust with. If the cloth is not damp, dust will go in the air and everywhere, which defeats the purpose of dusting, such a waste of time and effort. You can dust your kick-knacks, ceiling fans this way, as well. Thanks for the chance! jslbrown2009 at aol dot com

  4. My favorite cleaning tip is to double sheet the toddler bed. When I am done washing Aiden's sheets I put a fitted sheet on his mattress like normal, but then I flip the mattress and put a fitted sheet on the OTHER side as well. This way if there is a midnight accident I can just take off the wet sheet and flip the bed! No fumbling around for a sheet! :)
