Natchez Anniversary Trip | Part 1

Thursday, December 3, 2015

Last month, the husband surprised me with a little weekend getaway for our 7th Anniversary. We had a great time. It was such a slow pace, I feel like we were trying to find things to do to fill the time and that was AWESOME. We are always rushing, busy, and chasing two adorable little hooligans we rarely have time to just sit and stare at nature or go for a walk. We stayed in this awesome little place Under The Hill in Natchez. I want to post a whole tour of the little apartment/condo but I am going to split the photos I took during the trip into a few posts because I took a lot! You can see the inside of the bedroom and the outside from the balcony in the photos below.

Doesn't it look like he's staring out the window wistfully while I'm on the outside? ha!

On Saturday, we drove over to St. Francisville, but on Saturday evening and Sunday we hung around Natchez and did a little exploring. It was wet and cold but we it didn't really matter... we could do whatever we wanted.

The charm in Natchez does not stop. I mean look at these rooflines and there are so many gorgeous old houses that date back to the Civil War or before.

We also toured Rosalie, a Plantation Home, now owned by the DAR. It was so fun. Wesley and I really love american history and it's fun to hear all about the ancestry and what became of the people who lived in these homes. They don't allow photos on the inside, so all I can say is go tour for yourself! Or just watch Gone With the Wind.. that basically sums it up. Just kidding...

Look up Fort Rosalie and it's actually quite sad that this is the site where the final Natchez Native Americans were killed. Before the house was there of course, but later after the house was built and Natchez fell to the Union, this house became the headquarters for the Union Army in Natchez. There is so much history in this little river city that you could tour and talk for days!

Aside from he history, Downtown Natchez is very busy with shops and antiques. We did a little Christmas shopping and just walked around looking! I have always said I want to do a coffee table photography book of doors.. Natchez would be a perfect subject.

I can't wait to get my act together and blog a little more about this weekend, but that will have to wait until next week! I can't wait to show you guys Afton Gardens. So beautiful!

  1. I love Natchez! It's such an awesome little place. My husband actually lived in Natchez for a year or so when he was younger. We talked about going over for the Balloon Festival at the end of October? But that was to soon after I'd had my surgery. Did y'all make it out to Longwood? I think it might be my favorite, and I'd love to get back there with my Big Girl Camera.

Thanks for sharing with us at Photo Friday!
