How excited are you for the holidays? Me? I cannot wait to see the magic of Christmas through the eyes of my children this year. Christmas is my favorite time of year to get creative and today with the help of Goldfish crackers and a little imagination, we are going to bring a little of that magical spirit to life with Edible Christmas Trees. These trees are the perfect craft for a party or play date with the kiddos. It’s a great activity to have kids do as they arrive, then display throughout the event and at the end of the day they can either enjoy them or take them home to enjoy later!
Here are a few things you will need to create your own Edible Christmas Trees:
- Sugar cones
- Flat round cookies roughly the same size as the cone
- Icing in a ready-made tube or a ziploc bag with the corner cut
- Goldfish crackers in fun holiday shapes and flavors (exclusively at Target)
- Sprinkles or candies
This idea is something you can really get creative with and let the kids make it their own. I only completed the first step prior to letting the kids add their own touch. I did help my five year old with the bagged icing but he did the tube all on his own.
Step 1: Surprise Middle
For this edible craft, I decided to make create a little surprise in the middle by filling each cone with Goldfish S’mores flavored crackers. I added a ring of icing and attached a thin flat cookie creating a seal for those goodies on the inside!
Step 2: Let them be creative!
I try really hard not to guide the kid’s too much and let them create something that’s all their own. I set out all of the supplies so they were easy to reach and offered a hand when asked. I piped the white icing and encouraged taste testing!
Jonah really loves the mix of sweet and savory! He has always liked to make a snack mix and this was no different! He loved the holiday shapes and had the idea to put the Christmas Tree on the top like a star! He of course also called the stockings “J’s” like they stood for Jonah!
Step 3: Admire your creation!
Just like a gingerbread house, this snack craft can be eaten right away but also makes for a great decoration while friends play, plus once the icing hardens a little, it’s much less messy!
Step 4: Enjoy!
Don’t forget about that surprise middle!
This was such a fun activity, I even enjoyed it!
Goldfish crackers are a staple in our house and can almost always be found in our cabinets! This holiday season will be no different with such fun colors, shapes and flavors!
