My big boy started Kindergarten last week and I can hardly believe this is real life. Where did my baby go? You know what though, he is still a baby and he needs his Mom even though he's spending his days at school. Packing school lunch is a task that isn't always easy, but I love it so much. Even though some days Jonah has chosen to eat in the cafeteria and I'm okay with that as long as I know it's something he will eat. At 5 years old and probably for his entire life, what and how much he eats determines his entire mood, not to mention he really can't really afford to miss a meal.
Preparing his meal and sending it with him feels like he gets a little reassurance that I'm thinking about him in the middle of his school day. He may not think that, but I'm choosing to believe that at this age, those little messages will mean a lot. Now, I know that the days he loves the cafeteria food, it's a treat that he gets to eat hot spaghetti or breakfast for lunch (he's really excited about that one). I also get to send him a little snack for mid-morning, which I didn't know before the first day of school and I'm so happy that he gets this because they start school SO early in the morning! So, I have found the perfect little snacks that he loves - like Snyder’s of Hanover Pretzel Minis and Lance Sandwich Crackers. I also include things like fresh fruits and homemade fruit snacks (I know - I think I'm so fancy)! For an even a little more LOVE packed into this backpack and lunch box, I made these darling printable stickers to include! You can print them too. They don't have to be printed as stickers, they can just be little notes stuck in their pocket or lunch box!

When shopping for snacks, I let him choose a few Lance Crackers at Walmart. They come in almost every combo imaginable!
Lance has been making little sandwiches for over 100 years with two awesome crackers on the outside with incredible spreads between. With real peanut butter or real cheese andup to 5 grams of protein, no high fructose corn syrup, these sandwich crackers provide satisfying snack solution for our family’s busiest school days.
As for his lunch, we usually have a discussion the night before about what he'd like, and I try to accommodate. I just love how the mini pretzels fit perfectly in his new lunch box and I can even include dips!
I am so looking forward to see what he thinks of his sticker today! So, don't forget to save this for your own kiddo's lunch box or snack! If you print the stickers, I like to peel the corner a little and stick it to his snack or outside of his lunch. That way, it doesn't get lost, but he can stick it himself!
